Colorado Trip

John and Kathryn Ann had a wonderful visit to Colorado to visit with Mike and Desi and their family from August 24-29, 2011. To get there we drove our car via I-80 and took the cut-off at Laramie. Mike, Emily-5, Desi holding 6 month old Ruby, and Mordecai -3.

Emily started Kindergarten the day before we arrived and it was fun to go to her school.

Ruby and Emily. Ruby loves to go in her stroller.

Mordecai is learning to buckle his own set belt. He loves to play games, put together puzzles, and play computer games.

Mike came home early from work on Friday afternoon and took us miniature golfing. It was overcast with a few raindrops but very pleasant. There were few people there so Emily and Mordecai could play the holes in front of us and behind us several times without interrupting other players.

Everyone but Mordecai made at least one hole-in-one. Desi made one holding Ruby!

Emily--5 years old. She has excellent rhythm and her singing voice is wonderful. It was a delight to have her sing Primary Songs to us and with us. I loved playing Mike's grand piano! I played the piano for Primary so I got to see Emily there.

Saturday we visited the Hammond Candy Factory.

The greenbelt is a wonderful place to walk. Mordecai really speeds along in his red plasma car. He has worn out one pair of Crocs because he used his feet to increase speed or for brakes going downhill. He really gets going fast then makes a quick stop with an abrupt turn. The code word for him to stop is "Red light!" and he stops immediately whether walking, running, or in his car.

Ruby Marie is a happy baby. She is learning to eat and it is fun to see her get food to her mouth. She warmed us to us quickly. She is now sleeping though the night though she only took one nap in the daytime more than just a few minutes the whole time we were there.

Mike and Desi were gracious hosts. Mike was set apart as the ward executive secretary while we were there and John was invited to stand in the circle. He received a tender, comprehensive blessing with counsel. John and Kathryn Ann with Ruby Marie.

On the way home we stopped at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden. It was interesting but not the place to bring our grandchildren yet. This is the turntable/roundabout for trains to be moved in and out of the roundhouse. There was also a working water tower.

We had a nice walk at the Betty Ford Wildflower Park in Vail.

We drove home via I-70 to Salina and stopped at many of the view points. It was fun to reminisce about previous trips with our family.

We arrived home very late but filled with gratitude for our wonderful family and for the beautiful world in which we live.

Lillian Dianne and Amelia Ann

Lillian Diane (4 pounds 14 ounces) and Amelia Ann (5 pounds 13 ounces) were born vaginally at 4:30 AM and 4:38 AM on Monday, August 15, 2012. The birth was induced the morning of August 14. The babies were due August 25 so were 10 days early but with twins, three weeks early--37 weeks is considered normal.

Mark is introducing James and Grant to six-hours-old Lillian.

The boys were excited to meet their sisters and learn their names. They were having a bit of trouble saying their names. James kept calling Amelia "A Melody." Eventually the girls may have the nicknames of Lillie and Millie--their great grandmothers. Lillian is a beloved family name--grandmother, aunts, etc. Their middle names for for their grandmothers.

Lillian had a bit of trouble breathing so she was taken to the NICU but was only there 15 minutes when she started breathing well on her own.

Lillian Dianne looks very much like James when he was born.

Amelia looks very much like Kristilyn.

I was amazed at how strong she was, even lifting her head when just six hours old.

Proud parents with their beautiful babies.

Amelia and Lillian. Amelia's hair is a litle darker than Lillian's. Amelia has more of the looks of the Rogers family like Grant while Lillian has more of the Eliason family like James. They are beautiful, healthy babies.
