Lillis and Frank knew of each other all of their lives because their mother's worked together in a bakery when they were young women and both were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Both were born in California. It wasn't until Frank came up to BYU that 15-year-old Lillis really noticed him. They started writing when Frank served a mission in the Western States and continued while she served a mission in the Central Atlantic States.
