Friday, April 23, 2010 was our Temple and Research Day so we met Kathie (John's sister) and Dennis Smith at the Ogden Temple for an endowment session. It was a precious time to be together. Doug and Tracy have moved back into their home for several weeks before they move to Wyoming in June. Chris has been living there with his three little ones since the first of the year. Weekends will be like a three night sleep-over with six grandchildren. It was good to spend time together!
They have not yet set a date for the closure of the Ogden Temple for the major renovation. As we were driving in, I could see the wisdom in removing the steeple from the Stake Center/Ogden Mission Home and making the temple the focal point of the block. It is a sacred beauitiful building but the renovation of the entire block will add much to the beauty of the area. Though the Provo Temple has the same general architecture, its position at the mouth of Rock Canyon above BYU sets it apart. The redesign of the landscaping in from of the Provo Temple emphasizes the feeling of being set apart and going up to the House of the Lord.
My precious third cousin, Henrietta Wheeler from Rochester, Minnesota, was out with a generalogy group from Iowa for a week of research. We had a marvelous time together. She is a meticulous researcher with careful sourcing. She's 81 and doesn't know if the Iowa group will continue to come to Salt Lake City for genealogy again but I know that regardless of the location, we will have delight of doing family history together again. She was thrilled when I promised her that I would make sure that her and her husband's temple work would be done at the same time. She has just finished piecing a quilt for her grandson's wedding next month. We had excellent sucess in finding family members back to the 1669. The tutorial Henrietta gave me on Eastern European history on Tuesday was a great help when my student on Wednesday and Thursday was from Poland. What tender mercies we have on a daily basis.
Saturday, Sonja Rasband prepared a goumet luncheon for us at her home. Karen and Tiffany Keetch, Edie DuPaix, Rebecca and Reva Rasband and I met at Sonja's home to continue making plans for the Whitlock Reunion July 10, 2010, at Mutual Dell. I'm amazed at the talent, enthusiasm, and willingness of everyone to help and share ideas. Sonja had done much organizing for the Amazing Race Activity. Sonja has rennovated her home since her retirement. Every picture, piece of furniture, fabric, floor covering and furnishing reflects famiy, beauty, and convenience. Sonja is remarkable, gracious woman.
