Mavis Whitlock Hill Orr Loren Hill
(1926 - 2015) (1922-2015)
Mavis Whitlock Hill, 88,
passed away peacefully at home next to her sweetheart Orr, on Wednesday, March 18,
2015. She was born December 1, 1926, in Mayfield, UT, to Charles Clyde Whitlock
and Herdis Christoffersen. She married Orr L. Hill August 28, 1946. Mavis was
an educator, DUP member, pianist, and temple organist.
Mavis was a gifted musician. She could expertly accompany anyone and was equally adept at creating and arranging music. Even in her 80's she was performing difficult classical pieces in concerts in St. George. She was a temple organist in the Jordan River and St. George Temples for 33 years. She was active in Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and in later years brought Orr to all the activities. She was a master teacher. Kindergarten was her favorite place to teach where she loved every student but worked very hard to see that each learned well and quickly. She served in church and civic organizations wherever she lived. She was a temple worker, an exceptional Relief Society President and hosted many activities in her home throughout her life. Her faith and her family was the most important things to her. She and Orr had an eternal courtship, love, and appreciation for each other. They were only separated in death for two weeks. Their zest for life, positive attitude, and generosity will be remembered for generations.
Orr and Mavis were married in the Manti Temple on August 28, 1946.

After the children were in school, Mavis returned to teaching school and creating curriculum for U-Sail.

Orr Loren Hill, 92, joined his
sweetheart Mavis, April 1, 2015, following her passing two weeks prior. He was
born September 25, 1922, to Harvey Loren and Matilda Hill. Graduating from
Gunnison Valley High School, he served as student body president. He served in
the U.S. Navy in WWII for four years and in the Korean War for three years on the US Boxer as a medical corpsman.
He married Mavis Whitlock, August
28, 1946. He graduated with his B.S. from the University of Utah and his M.S.
from Brigham Young University. He lived in Riverton and was employed by the
Jordan School District and served as principal at five different schools. He
was a co-organizer for one of Utah’s first schools for mentally and physically
challenged children. He was the organizer and director of the Jordan School
District Media Center until he retired to St. George.
He served on the Jordan School Board
and Utah State School Board for eight years. He served as president of the
Jordan Credit Union Board for 42 years. He was an organizer of Draper Bank and
Trust and served on the executive board for 40 years. He was a reserve officer
for the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office for 10 years. He was a member of the
Rivertone Quartet for 20 years, entertaining in Utah and Idaho.
He was active in his church, serving
as a Bishop, on the High Council, and as Stake Mission President. He was an LDS
temple worker for 25 years at the Jordan River and St. George Temples.

All 15 of Orr and Mavis' beloved grandchildren at Mavis' funeral. At that time there were 29 great-grandchildren who were also in attendance.
