Kanosh, Utah, 2016

We visited the Kanosh Cemetery for Memorial Day. This is the marker for Johns's parents.

This is the marker for John's grandparents.

This is the marker for John's great-grandmother who was a pioneer from Scotland in 1859,



This is the marker of Chief Kanosh, a wise and good Indian chief for whom the town was named.

John standing between the first road on the east side, the big tree and his parents and Uncle Ofie and Aunt Helen's graves.

His parents' graves are near the big tree.

This is Kanosh Elementary where John attended Kindergarten through Sixth Grade.  His classes were in the old large part until the new wing was built where he attended Fifth and Sixth Grades.  He attended junior high and high school in Fillmore, Utah.  

When we were there the school yard was used for a sheep pasture.

John's father, John Victor Rogers was born in 1904  in a log cabin in Kanosh before the brick home was built.  This log cabin is found in the city park and may be similar to the one in which he was born.

This was a popular outdoor dance pavilion in Kanosh in the early 1900's.  When John was a child, it was a favorite place to roller skate.  Now it is used for tennis and basketball.

This is a bell in the park.  Our children have spent many hours playing in this area on the play equipment.  The "merry-go-round" has been replaced.

George's (Kanosh) Merc has a new paint job.  We didn't go inside to see if it still had the oiled wooden floors. Lots of penny candy was purchased here.

This is the old city hall where John played a lot of basketball.



The Kanosh Ward building has been remodeled and nice additions made. This view is most familiar because this is where we usually entered the building on the west, not on the new entrance on the north.  John's family was responsible for caring for this building inside and out for many years.
Kanosh Ward is vibrant and growing.  With a large ward membership there is talk of dividing it.  There are over 100 children in Primary and 30+ Young Women.

This picture shows the home when Lillian and Victor Rogers lived there with the large trees in front.  On the left hand side of the picture is their car and behind it is the root cellar.

This picture was taken in May, 1982, at the missionary farewell of Vic and Lillian Rogers prior to their service in Mississippi.  Our family is standing on the porch.  In front are Kristilyn, Michael,Katrina, and Keith.  Kathryn Ann is holding 4-month-old Julie Ann standing by John.
