Morris Clyde Whitlock passed away peacefully
at his home in Lehi, Utah on May 17, 2016, one week after celebrating his 99th
birthday. He is now enjoying a wonderful reunion with his parents,
Charles Clyde Whitlock and Herdis Christoffersen Whitlock; his six siblings and
their spouses; his daughter, Pamela Dee Nelson and her husband Ron, a
granddaughter, and two great-grandsons.
Morris is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Elaine Mack Whitlock. Also, two sons, Randall M. Whitlock (Launa) and M. Brent Whitlock, along with 12 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to the end of his life. He loved the church. He loved his Savior and his Father in Heaven. He served as a Bishop, in a Stake Presidency, and for 40 years as a Stake Patriarch. He served his first mission in Denmark, but was sent to finish his mission in the Central States because of the outbreak of World War II. In later years he served with Elaine as Directors of the Visitor’s Center in Liberty Jail and also in the Provo, Utah Mission. He and Elaine served for over twenty years at the church owned camp Mutual Dell in American Fork Canyon. His life was truly spent in serving others.
Morris was born in Mayfield, Utah on May 10, 1917. After his first mission he served in Japan at the close of World War II. He married Elaine on September 5, 1941. They moved to San Bernardino where he worked for 15 years for the Bank of America. Morris then went to work for the church as the Welfare Coordinator for the Southern California Region. In 1963, he began work on a citrus project for the welfare program of the church. He managed that 1460 acre ranch with 96,000 orange trees near Riverside, California, until his retirement in 1980.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 21 at 11 a.m. in the Jordan Willows Stake Center at 2161 West 300 South in Lehi. A viewing was held Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork and on Saturday at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, Morris has requested that donations be made to the LDS Church Humanitarian Fund, The Missionary Fund, or the Perpetual Education Fund. He was buried in the American Fork Cemetery.
