This has been an exciting week. John is very pleased about our new red Toyota Camry--especially about the fast pickup that the 6 cylinder has over the 4 cylinder which we had before.
The Elijah Choir performed on both Monday and Wednesday. Sister Naomi Jergensen was released and Elder Brague was sustained as the new director. She has focused on sound production and he focuses on precision. He was over the bands at BYU-Idaho for the last 20 years. She was a professional singer and has been a great asset to the choir for the last year. This was her third time (calling) to direct the choir. We will miss her special musical arrangments. Each person brings his/her unique strengths to callings and all are blessed. Monday Pres. Beardall spoke on the relationship of genealogy and family history using many personal experiences. The music--"I'll Go Where You Want Me to Go" and "The Spirit of Elijah" made the devotional one of the most spiritual and memorable ones we have ever had. Wednesday Elder Allan Packer of the Seventy spoke in a special CSM devotional which was streamed to all service missionaries throughout the world in both English and Spanish. It is incredible to think how many people in so many places are working to further the work of family history.
Thursday night John and I attended The Scarlett Pimpernell at Hale Centre Theatre as guest of Brent Whitlock. It was a delight to see him on stage again. He didn't have a speaking part but he was on stage often in various roles. Uncle Morris, Aunt Elaine, and Brent's daughter Camie and her husband Ryan were there so it was fun to catch up on family news. The production is amazing! They had everything from a full-size carosel to a set of the Bastille complete with a guillitine. The singing, dancing, and costumes were marvelous.
Friday night we tended Grant and James for Mark and Kristilyn's anniversary. We love getting to enjoy our grandchildren's individual personalities.
Saturday we spent at the Conference Center for three hours doing security. It was peaceful and I read again your testimonies and favorite scriptures which you wrote to me when you gave me my new quad scriptures. It was a sacred, tender experience. We love Temple Square and we are having many experiences in the Conference Center which is making that building special as well. As I listened to the fountain flowing I could picture Emily and Mordecai in July when they came to visit us on Temple Square.
Saturday afternoon, John and I went to Provo to visit with Craig and Lissa; Ben, Jamie, Kaylee, and Blake; and Nick and Renee Rogers. Ben graduated from BYU this week and was commissioned as an officer in the Air Force. They have paid for his education so he has a four year commitment with them but they haven't had to live as poor students because they have received a regular salary and benefits. He will now have six months of additional training during which Jamie and the children will live with Craig and Lissa before they go to Ft. Polk, Louisana, for 3 1/2 years.
It was fun to get to meet Renee. Renee is applying for a teaching position in Idaho but will probably have to wait until after the school year begins to find out where the openings are. She is a PE major with secondary certification as well a general elementary certification. She and Nick now live near Boise, Idaho, on the same block as Melissa's family. The two husbands work for the same company who have recently moved there from Southern California. Rebecca had a baby boy earlier in the week which makes three boys for her. Craig can retire from his work in a couple of years and they are considering moving to Idaho as well but that can change also. Josh, their youngest son is attending UVU and living with his cousin from Cannindegau(sp), New York. Things are going well with everyone.We love and appreciate each one of you. What unique strengths each of you bring to us and the family! We are so blessed.
