Today is our 42nd Wedding Anniversary of our marriage in the Manti Temple. John gave me this beautiful bouquet of roses and we're going to dinner later. We count our blessings every day that we can continue to share our lives together and enjoying our family and our mission activities. Friday we went to the newly refurbished Salt Lake Temple for an endowment session with our new missionaries and it was exciting to see the updates. Much of the work was unseen in the heating and air-conditioning. They have completely removed the old lockers and re-designed that area so it is very reverent. The temple was not only spotless, but glowing! We have two weeks off from the Training Zone this month and we are very involved with family activities.
Friday, August 17, 2012, Julie and Jason got tickets for the Golden Days celebration of President Thomas S. Monson's 85th birthday at the Conference Center and invited us to share the event with them. It was a fantastic concert. The entire stage decorated with yellow roses.
The Conference Center was almost filled to capacity for this memorable event with the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra.
Handling the crowds for the event was made more difficult because of the sidewalk construction on North Temple.
Amelia and Lillian celebrated their first birthday on Wednesday.
They were checking out the whipped cream on the cake to see if they got any. They eat a good variety of food and any food is much better if they can pick it up with their fingers.
Neal, Katrina, Daniel and Anna Carter came from Idaho on Friday night for Anna's surgery on Monday morning. Saturday evening Keith and Kim brought Talisa and Kira over to spend the night so they could see the Broadway production of "Wicked" for Kim's birthday at the Capital Theater.
Talisa, Daniel, and Kira were excited to have a Grandchildren Party Sleepover.
We had fun over at Heartland Elementary. They loved playing with Grandpa on the teeter-totter.
Kira staked out a bedroom in the Kindergarten playground where they were pretending to be on a big ship.

Sunday morning Uncle Neal was reading stories to them when Kim came to pick up the girls to get them ready for church. John and I took friends into Music and the Spoken Word at the Conference Center. The flowers from Friday night were still there and they sang three numbers from the previous concert. Our friends had never attended it before so it was a wonderful time for them to enjoy the broadcast and visit some places on Temple Square.
The Carters attended church with us on Sunday and in the evening they received back to school blessings.
Anna's surgery was Monday morning Anna was in surgery for four hours for an endoscopy and an selective dorsal rhyzotomy to trim the nerve receptors to her legs. She is healing well from previous stomach bleeding since soy has been eliminated from her diet. She will probably be in Primary Children's Medical Center until Friday. Katrina is with her day and night. Neal was able to be with them on Monday.
Monday Daniel and Grandma spent time on Temple Square. After lunch at the Church Office Building they visited the Training Zone and saw where Grandma & Grandpa work. We then went to the Salt Lake Temple where Daniel was able to see the door knobs. The next stop was the special exhibit at the Church History for children on the Book of Mormon. He learned about it on the Friend website and was very eager to see it in person. One of his favorite things was fishing in the ship that Nephi and his brothers built.
The next stop was a visit to the Eliasons. When he was here to visit last time they played in the sand pile under the tree in the back yard. Here are some pictures of what has happened in the past month.

The kitchen, bathroom, bedroom were just removed from the 100 year old house.
Forms were put in place and cement poured for the foundation.
The stairs were removed and a ladder provided the only access to the basement.
The floor of the new basement has been poured. Kristilyn took Grant, James, and Daniel inside the house. The workers helped the boys down the ladder and they played frozen tag on the new cement for a few minutes.

James, Lillian, Grant, Amelia, and Daniel getting ready to visit their house. Neal and Daniel Carter returned to Idaho on Tuesday because Daniel starts First Grade on Wednesday.
Melody and Brandon are busy. Melody is one of 500 accountants for Caesar's Entertainment. She and three other accountants audit or manage a property in another state. She works in a smoke-free building off the Strip in Las Vegas. She spends her time in a very small cubical. She is salaried and works Monday through Friday and one Saturday a month. They can live on Brandon's salary but inasmuch as she is now working they have purchased a new mattress and a television before they start paying off his student loans. Brandon has a lighter schedule this month so is studying diligently for his national boards on September 14. She teaches Relief Society on the third week.
Desi's sister Felicia was married in the Nauvoo Temple on August 15 to Thomas Richard Bibber.. Desi flew back for the event and Mike stayed home with their children inasmuch as their family had just been in Nauvoo in July. Mike took the children to the Denver Zoo and to neighborhood parks and watched three movies. Emily started First Grade last Monday and this was their last week to play together before school started so he took advantage of the opportunity. They have finished the remodeling of the girls' bedrooms and will start on Mordecai's next. Mike has a really busy week with some important deadlines on Friday.
Desi's Grandpa Joseph Pehrson died early this morning (Tue. 21 Aug 2012) in Salt Lake Valley and I don't know any of the plans yet. Life changes in an instant!
